Technology Gone Wild: The Madness That Doth Not Relent

"SCIENTISTS" have created a real-life thinking cap which works by zapping electricity through the brain. "You would use this if you wanted to look at a problem anew. "If you wanted to look at the world, just briefly, with a child's view [Yes?], if you wanted to look outside the box. [Ah!]"

The device, which uses two electricity conductors, significantly boosted results in a simple maths test. Out of a sample of 60 participants, THREE TIMES as many people who wore the cap were able to complete it, compared to those who tried it without.

The cap was inspired by accident victims who experienced a sudden surge in creativity after damaging the left side of their brains...Read on

--->Nanotechnology – the new threat to food by Georgia Miller. "Following on from genetic engineering, nanotechnology represents the latest high technology attempt to infiltrate our food supply. Senior scientists have warned that nanotechnology, the manipulation of matter at the scale of atoms and molecules, introduces serious new risks to human and environmental health. Yet in the absence of public debate, or oversight from regulators, unlabelled foods manufactured using nanotechnology have begun to appear on our supermarket shelves....More

--->British scientists creating a human-pig hybrid. When the British government's organization for science oversight approved a request to create human-pig hybrids in December 2007, there was uproar in the country. The extent of the debate, both bioethical and scientific, seemed to reflect the approval of a brand-new science...Researchers at Shanghai Second University have combined humans and rabbits [source: Telegraph]. Mayo Clinic scientists in Minnesota have already created pigs that have human blood, and a Stanford researcher developed mice whose brains are 1 percent human, with the ultimate goal of creating mice with entirely human brains [source: National Geographic]. It's not actually new in Britain, either: Human-cow embryos have been growing in London for quite some time...

Called RoboEarth it will be a place that robots can upload data to when they master a task, and ask for help in carrying out new ones. Researchers behind it hope it will allow robots to come into service more quickly, armed with a growing library of knowledge about their human masters"...More

[Apropos of the above, what is called the 'Technological singularity' "is a hypothetical event occurring when technological progress becomes so rapid that it makes the future after the singularity qualitatively different and harder to predict. Many of the most recognized writers on the singularity, such as Vernor Vinge and Ray Kurzweil, define the concept in terms of the technological creation of superintelligence, and allege that a post-singularity world would be unpredictable to humans due to an inability of human beings to imagine the intentions or capabilities of superintelligent entities...Read on

Those of us who still value spirituality and sanity will have to disengage from all these plums of what Aldous Huxley called the coming "Scientific Dictatorship," where mad technocrats seek to manipulate the planet and human nature itself. Non-violent disengagement means returning to simplicity, local control, and traditional community values all over the world. The scientific dictatorship can only succeed if we allow it to.

--->IMF calls for dollar alternative, cashless ...? SDRs represent potential claims on the currencies of IMF members. They were created by the IMF in 1969 and can be converted into whatever currency a borrower requires at exchange rates based on a weighted basket of international currencies. The IMF typically lends countries funds denominated in SDRs. While they are not a tangible currency, some economists argue that SDRs could be used as a less volatile alternative to the U.S. dollar... 1. Re: the marriage and sex with robots

As far as the artificial personality is concerned, the marriage part has already happened. I saw this, and told my priest that it felt like the world became a creepier place after hearing about this.

In Japan in 2009, a man who called himself "Sal9000" supposedly "married" a computer dating sim character whose instantiations are programed to answer to the name "Nene Anegasaki." The program ran on a Nintendo DS portable game machine.

This is the report from CBS on this incident. As you can imagine, the android/gynoid would simply have an instantiation of a popular data-sim character (or worse) that would act as if s/he were human, and there you go.

Sometimes, it make me prefer to be a farmer than an engineer.
