An Ominous Evaluation

I attempted to broadcast this from another recording for a BTR webcast, however it didn't work. The audio was very poor. Then happily I found this video. Dr. Peter Phillips of Project Censored gives a shocking talk at the Deep Politics Conference in May 2010 at the University Inn, Santa Cruz, CA. He discusses how "the Propaganda model post 9/11 becomes deliberate disinformation in part due to the consolidation of media and public relations groups; he also discusses terrible facts that are apparently suppressed by the corporate media---we simply do not hear of these on the Nightly News---and goes on to discuss the US and NATO as "protectors of global capital," the transnational corporatocracy "which is in our pockets, causing wars, starvation... all over the world..."

Please note: Regarding 9/11 make up your own mind, based on the evidence as you see it. I have friends on all sides of this controversy. I personally tend to agree with Noam Chomsky's assessment of the terrible event (vicious radical Islamic payback for well known grievances), but disagree with his contention that it ("inside job") wouldn't matter anyway; he is certainly right I believe when he insists that it is what we have done, exploited, in consequence of the terrible event that is clear and of most grave concern for this country, and for those we have waged (and escalated) seemingly endless wars against. So do listen and make your own judgments. This is a talk definitely worth hearing, whatever differences we may have; those facts recited which we can agree on appear serious enough. It is up to us to call our representatives to real reforms, back to decency, and justice.

--->Universal Declaration of Human Rights

--->In THE SHOCK DOCTRINE, Naomi Klein explodes the myth that the global free market triumphed democratically. Exposing the thinking, the money trail and the puppet strings behind the world-changing crises and wars of the last four decades, The Shock Doctrine is the gripping story of how America’s “free market” policies have come to dominate the world-- through the exploitation of disaster-shocked people and countries. (Interestingly, a lot of the media attack against Catholicism resembles a tactical shock attack)

Brave New World? Computers Set for Quantum Leap

A new photonic chip that works on light rather than electricity has been built by an international research team, paving the way for the production of ultra-fast quantum computers with capabilities far beyond today’s devices.

Future quantum computers will, for example, be able to pull important information out of the biggest databases almost instantaneously. As the amount of electronic data stored worldwide grows exponentially, the technology will make it easier for people to search with precision for what they want...Read it all

Note: It will be critical to urge our representatives to establish 'firewalls' of protection, i.e, solid laws against abuses of this kind of technology, especially (but not only) unjust surveillance, etc. Vigilance against the possible abuses of every kind of values-neutral technology is so critically important today. Lawyers and other professionals need to take constant notice of these developments, for our children's and grandchildren's sake.

Papal UK Visit

--->Five men held over papal terror alert in UK

--->Some traditionalist Catholics are very suspicious about any kind of interreligious dialog; but dialog as part of Christian proclamation is as old as the Faith itself... what is certain is that the Catholic Faith rejects any form of dialog which amounts to doctrinal bartering, indifferentism or theological relativism. Pope Leo XIII declared Anglican Orders defective from the Catholic tradition and so Anglicanism today can be seen as a religious phenomenon / schism consisting of many who are in good faith and others who appear to seek to transvalue the meaning of Christianity itself. Cardinal Newman's movement in the 19th century from lifelong Anglicanism to Catholicism is increasingly becoming the way for many Anglican clergy who reject these transvaluations. Can the rest of the problems be worked out? Few think so apart from a miracle (it's possible, we must believe!) But short of that there can surely be much cooperation and friendship along many lines between persons of good will, always. How we hope so.

--->Ratzinger / Benedict on Luther and the Catholic Faith...

There's been a lot here this week on Benedict and theology for obvious reasons. After Sunday I expect to return to more varied posting.
