Timeout: Eva Cassidy and a Classic

Eva Marie Cassidy (February 2, 1963 – November 2, 1996) was an American vocalist known for her interpretations of jazz, blues, folk, gospel, country and pop classics. In 1992 she released her first album, The Other Side, a set of duets with go-go musician Chuck Brown, followed by a live solo album, Live at Blues Alley in 1996. Although she had been honored by the Washington Area Music Association, she was virtually unknown outside her native Washington, DC when she died of melanoma in 1996.

In 1993, Cassidy had a malignant mole removed from her back. Three years later, during a promotional event for the Live at Blues Alley album in July 1996, Cassidy noticed an ache in her hips, which she attributed to stiffness from painting murals while perched atop a stepladder. The pain persisted and a few weeks later, X-rays revealed that the melanoma had spread to her lungs and bones. Her doctors estimated she had three to five months to live. Cassidy opted for aggressive treatment, but her health deteriorated rapidly.---Wikipedia

--->Iran starts nuclear reactor, says intent peaceful. The Russian-built Bushehr nuclear power plant will be internationally supervised, including a pledge by Russia to safeguard it against materials being diverted for any possible use in creating nuclear weapons. Iran's agreement to allow the oversight was a rare compromise by the Islamic state over its atomic program. Western powers have cautiously accepted the deal...

--->Madness: 'Statins with your burger?' Doctors want heart pills on menu. McDonald's, Burger King and other fast food outlets should offer diners free drugs to compensate for the risk of heart disease, cardiologists proposed today. Cardiologists propose putting pills beside salt and ketchup to balance heart disease risk; i.e., madness to all but pharmaceutical companies? A better idea: Get rid of the poisonous Fast Food joints, return to more local farming and encourage families to eat at home as families did before this crap was peddled to one and all globally. At least boycott the junk which they admit is a heartbreaker; leave it for 'on the road' trips only, if you can't pack a lunch.

Icke, Obama, Jones--->One of Alex Jones' favorite and regular guests, one whom Jones considers an "expert" in knowing what's really going on in the world, is David Icke. Icke, a former media Presenter in Britain, now become a rabid New Ager, thinks alien reptilians (who live inside the Moon [!!] which is really a giant Mother Ship) disguised as "shape-shifting" humans (Yup, look it up) rule the world. Icke is placed by Jones alongside reputable names (who seek Jones' radio audience reach) in his videos, foolishly diminishing their reputations by such appearances (why not band together and compete with Jones? Surely the time is ripe, now if ever). Icke and Jones each show in their own way that madness and psychic islands of lucidity and coherence are not mutually exclusive but often interpenetrate, sometimes in the space of 15 minutes. Icke thinks astral 'vibrational fields' are changing due to events in the zodiac and that he is the herald of a New Epoch about to dawn when the reptilians are either persuaded to become nice or are defeated. When Icke is on his show Jones says "maybe you are right" and then at other times Jones backs off from it, as he does with Christianity too. It's a kind of doublespeak, cynicism or confusion I fear. Take your pick. Jones forbids genuine debate about his alleged facts (screams at critics, "Punk!") then cuts them off quick, because he is determined to control all information. This is a bad and telling revelation of the child-like man.
