Mea Culpa: I have not prayed enough for those powers who oppose. My prayer has been piecemeal, haphazard, faltered. I must correct that ---daily. Help me, by also praying? By adding prayer, from the Father, in the Son and by the Holy Spirit, to crude reflections on the times and its errors, I (we) have the opportunity to unite to the last words of Jesus on the Cross. And then we can Hope for miracles, for changes in the hearts of those who oppose.

...The Humor of Pope Pius IX

Most Rev. Jacques Martin

The centenary of Pius IX's death has drawn attention again to the pope of the longest pontificate in history: the pope who lived through the exile in Gaeta and the Roman Republic of 1848, the proclamation of the Immaculate Conception and of Papal Infallibility, the celebration of the first Vatican Council and the end of the temporal power of the papacy.

It has been said of Pius IX that he was at once the most loved and the most hated of all popes: the most dissimilar judgments have been passed on his multiform activity during the thirty-two years of his reign. Allow us to recall here a secondary but characteristic aspect of this astonishing figure. Pius IX partly owed his immense popularity to his joviality, his witticisms, and the art he possessed of grasping the comic aspect of a person or of a situation. Pius IX was a pope full of humour.

In the very first months of his pontificate, in 1846, he had to deal with a curious problem...Read it all

--->Popes Condemned Slavery Before US, 1839, undermining slave trade and slaveholders, courts: Pope Gregory XVI wrote in Supremo Apostolatus that he admonishes and adjures "in the Lord all believers in Christ, of whatsoever condition, that no one hereafter may dare unjustly to molest Indians, Negroes, or other men of this sort...or to reduce them to slavery..." Not that all Catholics in the American South listened to him by any means. But what else is new? Anyway, what are the chances children in the Public Schools are taught this at all? Thomas Jefferson, a slaveholder, had only been dead 13 years.

--->Say anything, whatever you want about them, the so-called 'Taliban' (i.e., anyone who fights back) are not cowards: and such single insurgents are more dangerous than any billion dollar science-fiction weapon in the sky. "Insurgents wore replica American uniforms and at least 13 had strapped themselves into suicide bomb vests, NATO said".---Over 100 Nato deaths this month. For God's sake, cease the occupation and wars!

Do We Really Take MLK

We’ve Ignored King on War: "Unfortunately, President Obama has cast a cloud over Martin Luther King Jr. Day, regarding the most vital gifts from our 20th-century hero. Sadly paraphrased: Rosa sat so Martin could walk. Martin walked so Barack could run. Barack backpedaled to have his war and a Nobel, too". Note: if ever there was a frightening Orwellian prize it was the one Barack Obama received as he was escalating wars on two new fronts and setting the stage to escalate on other fronts. King was called a "Commie" for opposing the war.
And our war fronts have hardly had a breath's pause, and Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity are still calling those who seek not Orwellian 'peace' but real peace, an end to the death and dying, "Unamerican".

Meanwhile, the LA Times reports A U.S. 'legacy of waste' in Iraq ---as Americans are foreclosed on, evicted to the streets, facing unemployment, bankruptcy.

--->Media Conditioning Working Well. Non-Celibate 'Gays' and 'Lesbians' Tearing Up the Lutherans. Conservative Lutherans began forging the new body just weeks after the ELCA gave the green light in 2009 for non-celibate gays and lesbians to serve as clergy. Over the last year, hundreds of congregations have moved toward severing ties with the ELCA, which is the largest Lutheran denomination in the country with 4.5 million members...

--->Depressed? It was aptly said that music is the medicine for broken hearts. Choose good music you really enjoy. Music soothes the savage beast. And it need not be classical music (though that is certainly often good); it may be just good Pop music you like (forget what the uptight modern day Jansenists say! You know what moderation is!).

Shakespeare marveled, "Is it not strange that sheeps' guts [musical strings] should hale men's souls out of their bodies?"

"Whenever the [tormenting] spirit came upon Saul, David [the righteous future king of Israel] would take his harp and play. Then relief would come to Saul; he would feel better, and the evil spirit would leave him." ---1 Samuel 16:23

God Himself loves music and dance! Er, I'm not going to be ready for Dancing with the Stars! But I'll sit and clap my hands! :-)

Ecclesiastes 3:4 "To every thing there is a season...A time to weep and a time to laugh; A time to mourn and a time to dance".

Huff the Magik dragon--->How Huffington Post Operates. Sought Sex tape on Glenn Beck and then pretends article just slipped through and pulled it..., but the word is out and so it's just what the doctor ordered, eh? Beau Friedlander (Columbia's finest) offered $100,000 to anyone providing a Glenn Beck Sex Tape (Beck admits he was a bad boy some ten years ago but has changed) ...More. I guess Alex Jones is not the only one who hates Beck, likely due to jealousy. Jones calls a rally & gets a few hundred at most. Beck---as much as his jingoism annoys me---calls a rally and gets tens of thousands. These others and their deeds at Huff speak for themselves. BTW, tell your young people, anyone who makes a "sex tape" needs to have their head and heart examined.

Muggeridge: James M. Huston writes that Malcolm Muggeridge used to point out that "medieval cathedrals had gargoyles everywhere: at the drainage points of the roof, and carved at the end of the pews. His point was that religiously we need much humor and should never take ourselves too seriously in claiming to do the work of God".

--->The Church and Emperors, hardly a dull moment!

--->Compassionate Cannibalism? Matthew Archbold writes, Various media reported on an online campaign calling on people to “donate any part of their body” to a new cannibal restaurant. They also advertised for an “open-minded surgeon.” Oooooookay?! This is assuredly an online p.r. stunt for something or other but...

--->The Hidden Tragedy of the CIA's Experiments on Children. Too, "In 2008, at the behest of US Sens. Carl Levin, Joe Biden and Chuck Hagel and in reaction to a March 2008 article in The Washington Post, the Pentagon initiated an Inspector General Report on the use of "mind-altering substances by DoD [Department of Defense] Personnel during Interrogations of Detainees and/or Prisoners Captured during the War on Terror." It is not known if the investigation has been completed." Note: This would appear to grossly violate the Nuremberg Code... Have we become a completely lawless power?
