The Silence of God

The four most terrible words in human language are "God gave them up" (Rom 1 v.24).

This silence of God is the most fearful judgment which happens in time and space when we as a people, individually and collectively, reject wisdom and turn our waywardness and sin into a new idolatry; into a new counter religion of the anti-word wherein we choose other gods, the "god of our own understanding," fashioned in an attempt to circumvent God's commandments.

After speaking and calling to our conscience for so long, after His grace is resisted from rebellion to rebellion, and contempt is shown for His Love and commandments, the Lord withdraws His grace from the world and leaves us to our created freedom, and to our folly. Then we are fearfully on our own, to reap what we sow, choice by choice, act by fearful act.

Every judgment is intended to be an atonement, to bring us back; and this is the most fearful judgment-atonement of all, the silence of God who lets us go in our hurbis and rebellion.

Judgment-atonement: In the Old testament the Hebrew word for both are the same, kippur. Only if we die in our rebellion without forgiveness will the tree remain where it falls, and we will then take our judgment into eternity. Because the verb we were in freedom becomes then the noun of what we have become, what we have done with that freedom; what we then forever are.

Today the silence of God is deafening, because we have rejected His will like never before in history. Our hubris, which is without parallel because of the technology we make instruments of sin and horror, is of another order, the antichristic. And our fall will be all the greater because of it.
Romans 1: Because that, when they knew God, they have not glorified him as God, or given thanks; but became vain in their thoughts, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 For professing themselves to be wise, they became fools. 23 And they changed the glory of the incorruptible God into the likeness of the image of a corruptible man, and of birds, and of fourfooted beasts, and of creeping things. 24 Wherefore God gave them up to the desires of their heart, unto uncleanness, to dishonour their own bodies among themselves. 25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie; and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

26 For this cause God delivered them up to shameful affections. For their women have changed the natural use into that use which is against nature. 27 And, in like manner, the men also, leaving the natural use of the women, have burned in their lusts one towards another, men with men working that which is filthy, and receiving in themselves the recompense which was due to their error. 28 And as they liked not to have God in their knowledge, God delivered them up to a reprobate sense, to do those things which are not convenient; 29 Being filled with all iniquity, malice, fornication, avarice, wickedness, full of envy, murder, contention, deceit, malignity, whisperers, 30 Detractors, hateful to God, contumelious, proud, haughty, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 Foolish, dissolute, without affection, without fidelity, without mercy. 32 Who, having known the justice of God, did not understand that they who do such things, are worthy of death; and not only they that do them, but they also that consent to them that do them.

The end then is the Hell we choose, choice by choice, and take with us into eternity. It is the decision to reject our very Maker. There is little hope for a culture based on lies. But there is hope for us as persons while we have breath. We can return to our senses, return to the Lord, to wisdom, to His Rest, and leave all the false lying teachers whom the media dishes up to 'program' us away from wisdom and eternal life. We can cease following the herd and look on the Cross, on Him who died for us, who bore our sin and opened the way to healing through grace. We can humble ourselves and admit we have been wrong, our whole lives maybe, like sheep we have all gone astray, every one to his own way. It is never too late, while we have breath, to find forgiveness. We can hear our God again.

--->Never despairing of God's mercy...

Therefore tell the people: This is what the LORD Almighty says: 'Return to me,' declares the LORD Almighty, 'and I will return to you,' says the LORD Almighty---Zach 1:3
